“Booln Booln” means Lyrebird. The lyrebird is known for its remarkable ability to mimic and share sounds, a speaker of all languages. This is symbolic of the many mobs that make up our Wathaurong Aboriginal Community.
Wathaurong Booln Booln Cultural Centre isn’t just for some; it’s a space for everyone. Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, locals and visitors, families and professionals, young and old.
Just as the Lyrebird listens and carries the songs of the bush, we carry and honour the voices of our people.

Where are we located?
Cultural Education & Ceremonies
Booln Booln Cultural Centre is a place where stories, language and culture come to life. We bring people together to yarn, learn and connect to Wathaurong Country.
We offer Cultural Ceremonies including Welcome to Country, Smoking/Cleansing Ceremonies, and Yarn Sessions that create space for sharing and understanding.
Our school programs and excursions are hands-on and full of learning, from ochre art and storytelling to learning Wadda Wurrung language and connecting to Country through touch, feel and story.
We also run cultural awareness and professional development sessions, which can be designed for your specific needs. Another offer is our creative workshops. These include basket weaving, dilly bag making, emu feather jewellery, nature art, and bush dolls.
Every session is about sharing culture in a real, meaningful way.
Room Hire
Looking for a unique and welcoming space to bring people together? Booln Booln offers a warm, culturally rich environment that’s perfect for workshops, training, meetings, launches, and special events.
Our Conference Centre can comfortably accommodate up to 90 people, making it ideal for both intimate gatherings and larger group sessions. With flexible room layouts, we can set up the space to suit your event, whether that’s theatre-style seating for presentations, workshop tables for collaboration, or an open layout for more relaxed gatherings.
What makes Booln Booln truly special is more than just the location, it’s the atmosphere. Located on Wathaurong Country, our centre offers a space that’s calm, welcoming, and full of cultural meaning. It’s a place that encourages connection, learning and genuine conversation.

Our shelves are filled with pieces created Aboriginal artists and makers or supporting Aboriginal artists and makers. You’ll find beautiful jewellery, artwork, weaving, clothing, books and cultural gifts that carry real meaning. Every item has a story behind it that carry stories and designs of Aboriginal makers.

Our café space at Booln Booln is entering a new chapter. While the name and look are changing, what it stands for never will: a place to gather, yarn, learn and connect.
First, a sincere Nyatne (thank you) to Blak Brews for the connections created, the conversations shared, and the welcoming space provided here over the past year. We’re grateful for everything you’ve brought to this community.
We’re excited to introduce Lyrebird Café, named for the lyrebird, known for listening, learning and sharing stories. That’s exactly what this space is about.
The café is currently closed while we work behind the scenes on the changeover. Everything else at Booln Booln remains open as usual: Monday to Friday, 9am–4pm, and Saturday, 9am–2pm. We can’t wait to welcome you back soon.
